I always bought the ALPINE AIR units for $299-399. Why are these so much less? DO THESE PUT OUT THAT WONDERFUL FRESH "AFTER IT RAINS" SCENT?

I'm not the seller, but I too owned and briefly even SOLD the Alpine product years ago. The Alpine business model (was then) basically a MLM co. So the price was high / Set A distributor couldn't really sell it for less than the set price. ~150 is the 'new' going price for units like this one as more competitors are selling, and more directly via sites like Amazon and other global marketplaces.

How often you change the filter?

The filter should be changed every 6 months if used continuously. HEPA filter traps very fine particles, down to 0.3 micro; and the carbon filter absorbs the small and other particles from the air. People are always surprised when they see the old one vs new one (and that's only the big particles trapped). The replacement filters are $20.

I home has two floors, will this provide coverage for both?

We also have two floors and a full basement. We run one unit in the basement and the other on the stairway to the second floor. We get good coverage on the first floor (if your floor plan is open) and we can also smell the ozone on the second floor. If the area is not "open", I'd suggest one unit on both floors. These work great! If there is ever a problem with the unit, they are incredibly quick about offering repair. One of ours had a rattle in the fan, they paid for shipping, called and told us what they had fixed, and returned the unit promptly. Mammoth is a very good company to deal with.

Does the product manual that came with it specify how many percent of bacteria and other pollutants can the device remove?

A quick scan of the manual indicates 99% of bacteria, mold and allergens are trapped. You can view a PDF of the manual here: Mammoth Air Classic Manual.

Will the ozone effect house plants?

Best answer I can give you is here: Effects of Ozone Air Pollution on Plants. I would say if you follow the suggested run time for the O3 it won't be a problem as long as your living space can be ventilated after. I've only run it once for about an hour in an open plan 1000 sq ft area and there was no damage to my plants, but that was just one use. If you have a large amount of plants in the area and it's condensed then maybe you would see some leaf speckling, but I think you would have to go out of your way to do that. Don't use this in a greenhouse as it's un-necessary. Remember your wonderful plants already clean the air pretty well for you.

Are all filters washable or do I have to buy more to replace them?

The HEPA filters are not washable as they trap very fine particles; the carbon filter works by absorbing odors, so once it's fully saturated, it won't do any good; and if you are looking for the model with UV, the photocatalytic properties at the back of the filter breaks down via UV overtime. the ozone plate last a lot longer. replace filters every 6 months.

All I need to eliminate is smoke odor - will this do it in 1500 sq. ft.?

Yes, I think so it worked to remove the smoke smell from my mother in laws furniture she is storing in my basement.

Is it okay to run this in the basement to get rid of the musty smell and still be at home?

Yes, I've used this product in musty areas and it is effective. I've been home and have used this product around my kids and pets with no detrimental results. I recommend changing the filter often, every 3 months. One draw back I have found is the bare wiring inside the unit will eventually rust, and the fan needs cleaned and lubricated from time to time to keep it running in top shape.

If I have dogs can I leave it running while I'm at work or will it hurt my dogs?

Important mode is Ozone mode. Unit can run all the time when NOT in the Ozone mode at any fan setting. In large floor plans such as more than approximately 800 or 1000 square feet, it is probably safe to operate in the Ozone mode at the LOWEST setting for Ozone and Fan for long periods of time. We have operated in an in-law suite continuously for more than 12 hours if needed for significant odor control without adverse effect on people.

I have six not house trained dogs. Will it remove the urine smell in the carpets?

The ozone will help destroy the odor, but the best air purification is to remediate the smell source and use the air purifier as a supplement source. Also, large amount of ozone, while works to destroy odor, is not recommended for human and pets. We advise using ozone when no one is around and programmed to turned off (this model will require a manual timer or opening the windows to air out) when someone enters the room again.

Any idea as to whether this ionizer will help someone with sleep problems?

Not that I know of, it just purifies the air you breath.

I accidentally pulled power cord out while dusting/wiping it down it was running at the time - when a replied in the machine did not not work.

It sounds like you have blown the fuse. The product comes with an extra fuse you can try (the fuse holder is the block knob in the back that you hand unscrew and put the new fuse back on). If you need to buy a fuse, you can go to any hardware stores like Home Depot or Lowes for that fuse. It's easy to find. If you need more help, contact Mammoth Air Purifier.

I just cracked the plastic around where the power plug connects. Is there a way to order a new piece (it unscrews)?

Yes you can. You can contact the Mammoth Air Purifier manufacture and they can help you with it.

Does this have Photo Catalytic Oxidation capabilities?

No, it does not have PCO. I do know "green air machine" has PCO.

How quiet is this?

It is pretty quiet. It sits close to our bed on our boat, so I turn it off when we go to sleep, but it is on otherwise. We only periodically use the ozone part.

I purchased this a year ago and now the fan is making a loud noise. How do I get that fixed as it has a 3 year warranty?

You will need to contact the factory to process a claim. It would be simpler, if you process the claim through the vendor you purchased it from. You must provide the details of your purchase, such as, date of purchase, your order ID and who you purchased it from. As per factory Warranty policy, there is a $35.00 deductible that will be charged for the repair but they will cover all shipping both ways. Please let us know if you need additional information.

Is it hard to get replacement filters?

The filters are available on amazon, on the manufacture's website (free shipping as well) as well as our store (free shipping also). Mammoth claims to have one of the cheapest replacement filter cost (including free shipping as well). Keep in mind replacement filter should be replaced after 6 months of continuous use according to Mammoth Air Purifier for this HEPA/Carbon Odor filter (note that some replacement filter says 12 hour use vs the 24 hour use); small detail but that's 50% shorter, which means 50% more expensive.

What are the measurements of the unit?

12" x 9" x 12" small but powerful.

What sq. footage does it cover?

600 sq feet w/o OZONE, 2500 with OZONE.

Is the warranty 3 or 5 years? Near the top of Amazon's page it refers to a 5 year limited warranty. Under prod description "Mammoth 3 Year Warranty".

My warranty card that came in the package with the user manual says one year and you can get a free extended warranty.

Can I remove the ionizer plates? I just want a smoke/carbon cleaner. Would it still filter the smoke?

There are two switches: one ionizes, and one produces ozone. The plates are for ozone. The filtration is mostly to keep the insides of the machine clean, it seems to me. I never use the ozone function.

Does this unit meet California standards for ozone emissions? Is it safe to run the ozone generator when a human and 2 cats are home?

From what I have read. NO. This machine will crank ozone. just be wise and use it. You will be impressed. No more smells. Im in Florida and leave it on ozone low and fan high when needed.

Is this actually effective for specifically, *cigarette* smoking inside an apartment?

It depends on how big the sq. foot area you are trying to clean. I have 1500 sq. foot in downstairs and 12 small dogs. 2 units work well. They run 24/7. The trick is to keep the paper filter changed regularly ( I do @ 3 months) and the inside ceramic plates cleaned. I soak them in ammonia 2 time a year. Mine have been running for many years. Beware of excess humidity in the air, it will corrode wire connections.

Does this product produce negative ions?

Yes it has both ozone and negative ions, as well as a HEPA filter.

Does this unit work well for eliminating cigarette smoke and odor? I am planning to use it in our glass-enclosed smoking porch.

Yes, I think it would work well. We used ozinator for a place we recently rented and it worked wonders on the old cigeratte smoke but just know you will have to run all the time as smoke is one of the worst smells to get rid of. Works wonders on odor.

How many square feet does it cover?

My house is 2300 square foot and I have placed it near the intake vent for the AC/Heating and it appears to cover the entire house. I have really bad allergies and this has helped tremendously throughout the house, so I can only assume it's covering a very large area. My second home is smaller and I had to put it in a central location, but it's works just a well. I'm very happy with the performance and looks of the product.

Will it remove dander?

If its air born and makes it to the filter. Once on a surface in the room. Has to be wiped up.

Does this unit have a UV bulb?

No, it uses two ceramic plates.

Can I use the Mammoth Air Purifier while my fan is also running?

If you mean a ceiling fan, the answer is yes. In fact, we usually run both together to help move the ionized air around the house. Just remember, you don't want to use the ozone (O3) generator while you are in the house. Use a timer for this mode, and have it turn off at least a half hour or so before re-entering the house.

Where do you get the filters when they need replaced?

Phone # on machine for customer support 800-470-4201 or email support@mpurifier.com.

How do you change ozone gen. plates?

You simply take off the back panel (the HEPA filter). On the inside are two slide ports that the O-zone plates fit into by pushing them into place. No tools necessary.

I will be out of town and return on June 2nd. If I was to order today can you make sure I do not get delivery until I return?

I can almost guarantee that we can make that happen for you.

Is this unit a dual ceramic ozone plate purifier or does it use just one 4 1/2" x 4 12" plate? In other are the 2 plates used simultaneously?

Yes, both plates are used simultaneously, they come in the box seperately. You can opperate the unit with or with out them.

Why does it seem to have slowed down on the cleaning? I have the settings set at half way, no dust on the plates, is it the filter?

I've not had this issue, so I'm not sure why it's not functioning efficiently. I would contact the manufacturer.

Does this help with the smell of cigarette smoke (from smoke that wafts into my condo unit under the door from neighbors who are smokers)?

If you run it all the time it will. The unit gives off a very distinct smell. Most say it smells like rain. I wouldn't call it that. If you run the ozone too long it almost makes the air seem stale. The ozone plate turns the oxygen into ozone which is O3 and after an hour it turns back into oxygen leaving the air seemingly clean. Let it run in your house for about an hour or so a day when your not home and the smell from it will last for a couple days even if you don't use it every day. Its not a bad smell, its just....odd smelling. But it kills bad odors like its going out of style. I'd buy another one. I actually have the more advanced, digital model with a timer on it. It costs like $150-$200 more but I got a free upgrade. I bought and paid for this one but then they emailed and said they were out of stock and gave me the upgrade for free.

Does the unit have a timer for the ozone generator?

No, you must manually turn the ionizer on and off.

Is it possible to operate the ionizer function without the ozone generator, or do they always operate together?

They can operate seperately although the air filter portion of this device is pretty much worthless. It's a great ionizer though.

Is the filter of Mammoth Classic HEPA washable?

The ionic plates are washable, the filter on the back is disposable.

Filter replacement?

While I ordered the "Classic" model, it was not in stock and Mammoth substituted the "1000" model. The main filter on the 1000 is washable and does not require replacement. I have no firsthand knowledge of the Classic model.

Are the Charcoal filter come in the boxes?

The new model (this listing) has the Charcoal and HEPA filter built into one, so no need to worry about inserting multiple filters. The new filter, not shown here, also comes with a pre-filter built in.

Does this collect pet hair?

Whatever is in the air the machine will collect. Most hair are not floating in the air so pet hair will not technically be sucked into the filter. However, you will see small hair, dust and dirt collected on the filter.

Does this come with 2 ozone plates, i.e., does this employ 1 ozone plate or 2 ozone plates while it is running?

The Mammoth Classic uses 2 ozone plates. I believe it came with both plates. You can order extra plates at a reasonable price. The ozone function on this air cleaner is STRONG. I usually use a timer with it for when we are out of the house to sanitize the air. When home, we use the ionizer function only. I hope this helps!
